There’s never an age limit when it comes to fighting for what you believe in.  Brennan Gilmore tweeted a photo Sunday of his 97-year-old grandfather, John Middlemas, kneeling in support of the #TakeAKnee movement, started by former San Francisco 49ers football player Colin Kaepernick in 2016 over police violence against African Americans.  President Donald Trump’s outspoken criticism against athletes who don’t stand up for the national anthem sparked this protest among people like Middlemas in solidarity with NFL athletes who kneeled on the field this weekend.  SEE ALSO: #TakeAKnee protests are about police violence, not the military or the Constitution […]

Taking a knee during the national anthem is upsetting some DirecTV customers.Image: Patrick Smith/Getty Images) Ignorance is bliss, especially when it comes to free speech at football games.  That’s what Trump supporters and other football fans who can’t handle sports activism seem to think. For the football fans who claim they are bothered seeing athletes standing up (or rather, kneeling) for the right to protest, DirecTV is caving with refunds to their sports package, the Wall Street Journal reported. The tweet on Trump’s account is still up. I don’t think Trump did this tweet pic.twitter.com/HXZHPr6Nls — Joe Perticone (@JoePerticone) October 4, 2017 The error provides a glimpse behind the scenes of how Trump’s Twitter account is run. It has been generally assumed that Trump sends most of his own tweets.  Trump may have […]

The official portrait of astronaut Leland Melvin with his dogs Jake and Scout.Image: NASA/REX/Shutterstock Leland Melvin — former astronaut, NFL player, engineer, author, and owner of the best damn official NASA photo of all time — shared a perfect takedown of President Donald Trump to his Facebook page on Saturday. In his post, Melvin condemned Trump for many of his recent actions, calling them both “boorish and disgusting.” The post touches on multiple incidents, including Trump’s NFL-connected attacks on free speech, his tweet which depicted violence against Hillary Clinton, his comments after protesters clashed with racists in Charlottesville last month, […]

Thirty-two Denver Broncos players took the knee on Sunday.Image: John Leyba/The Denver Post via Getty Images An unprecedented number of NFL players kneeled or otherwise protested during pre-game national anthems this Sunday after Donald Trump spent his weekend feuding with the league over the peaceful act. The hashtag #TakeAKnee (and a variant, #TakeTheKnee) trended on Twitter all day Saturday and Sunday as players and some team owners and front offices defied the president’s repeated attacks with public statements and on-field shows of solidarity. And despite players’ repeated explanations of the intention behind their decision to kneel or raise a fist, […]
