The iPhone X‘s new TrueDepth camera system is rumored to be causing some production delays, but it could give Apple an important edge over its competitors for years to come.  Renown analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities said Apple’s competitors will likely need at least two and a half years to replicate the TrueDepth camera’s functionality and user experience in an investors note obtained by MacRumors. The system is the key to Apple’s new “Face ID” biometric security technology, Animoji, and several other new features. Kuo’s bold predictions come shortly after he watched Apple’s official demonstrations of the camera system, […]

Put it on there.Image: apple The excitement of Tuesday’s Apple Event isn’t limited to the iPhone X.  Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, took the stage to unveil the future of device charging — at least as far as Apple is concerned.  It’s called Airpower, and it’s the company’s first big move toward wireless charging.  SEE ALSO: The Apple Watch Series 3 is here, has cellular connectivity, and is kinda boring “It’s a mat that you place your iPhone 8 or iPhone 10 down and it just starts to charge,” Schiller told the crowd. “You can place your […]

We already know that Charlie Brooker’s dystopian series Black Mirror is the perfect, nightmarish commentary for our tech-filled times.  SEE ALSO: Even Apple admits Face ID can’t fully secure your sensitive data But rarely has it been so well manifested than during Apple’s announcement of “animojis” — that is, dynamic 3D emojis that mimic your face.  When you smile, frown, or sneer at the iPhone X, the device’s facial recognition technology can scan your face and morph it into animated avatars — like the fox, the alien, and this big stinking pile of poo:  Image: Apple Now, if you paid […]

Image: Getty Images At last, Bill Gates has joined us in the present. The Microsoft co-founder announced in an interview with Fox News Sunday that he’s now using an Android phone.  The move was probably inevitable. Windows on mobile has effectively been a dead platform ever since Microsoft gutted its phone division two years ago. While Windows 10 technically works on phones, there’s been pretty much zero support from hardware makers and app developers outside of Microsoft. Gates told Fox that the phone he uses is an “Android phone with a lot of Microsoft software.” This could suggest that he’s […]
